Carmella Dornes Obituary

Carmella "Tiny" Dornes, a beacon of light and love, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 6, 2025, in her lifelong home of Reading, Pennsylvania. Born on April 25, 1939, to the late Leonard & Josephine Lapi, Tiny lived a life that overflowed with joy, love, and unwavering faith. Her journey on this earth may have concluded at the age of 85, but the legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire and guide us all.

Tiny was a cherished sister, a devoted mother, and a friend to many. She was the youngest sibling to her three brothers, Leonard, Morris, and Richard Lapi, and her two sisters, Jenette Drey and the late Lily Lapi. Her role as a matriarch was one she held with grace, raising her three children—Michael A. Nertavich of Reading, Alan W. Nertavich of Mohrsville, and Cynthia A. Nertavich of Shoemakersville—with love and a steadfast commitment to their well-being.  She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Dornes.

Her professional life was marked by her dedication and pride in her work at Burger King. Tiny treated everyone she met with respect and kindness, whether they were co-workers or customers, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that was felt by all who crossed her path. She retired with the same dignity and integrity with which she served, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and the importance of treating others with compassion.

Tiny's zest for life was evident in her everyday activities. She relished the simple pleasures, like sitting on her porch, engaging in lively conversations with friends and neighbors, and finding joy in the thrill of a good bargain while shopping. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she valued the weekly ritual of attending Mass with her sister Dolly, a testament to her faith-filled spirit.

The words that best describe Tiny are loving, faith-filled, and thoughtful. She navigated life's challenges with an unwavering optimism and a heart full of love. She touched the lives of those around her by exemplifying how to live a life grounded in kindness and generosity. Her thoughtful gestures and the warmth of her spirit left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered.

In remembering Tiny, we are reminded of the power of a positive outlook and the beauty of a life well-lived. She taught us that every interaction is an opportunity to make a positive impact and that the true measure of our lives is the love we share with others. Tiny's story is not one of an ending but a continuation, as the seeds of goodness she planted in this world will continue to grow and flourish in the lives of those she touched.

As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, let us honor her memory by embracing the lessons she embodied. Let us approach each day with a loving heart, treat every person with kindness, and cherish the community we create with our friends and family. In this way, Tiny's spirit will continue to live on, guiding us toward a life of purpose, joy, and boundless love.

Carmella "Tiny" Dornes was a light in the lives of those she knew, and her memory will forever be a source of motivation and a beacon of hope. May we all strive to carry her legacy forward, living each day with the same love and faith that she so effortlessly demonstrated. Rest in peace, Tiny, and thank you for the countless ways you have enriched our lives.
