James Acton Obituary

James “Jim” Acton, 68, of Morgantown, PA, passed away on February 19, 2026.

Above all else, Jim was a devoted father. His children, Logan and Stella Acton, were his greatest pride and the center of his world. Being their dad was the most meaningful role of his life, and his love for them was evident in every word he spoke and every story he shared. He adored them beyond measure.

Jim cared deeply for his family. He spoke with his mother, Judith Iribas Acton, every single day and loved her dearly. Those daily calls reflected the devotion and loyalty he carried for the people he loved. He shared a special bond with his father, George Acton, and their relationship meant a great deal to him throughout his life. After his father’s passing in 2008, Jim grew even closer to his stepmother, Ruth Acton of Texas — a connection that meant so much to his siblings.

Jim was a loving uncle to Matthew Shimanovsky, Lauren Shimanovsky Schwartz, Maxwell Acton, Paulie Furiani and Otto Furiani.

He is survived by his children, Logan Acton and Stella Acton; his stepmother, Ruth (George) Acton of Texas; his sister, Carrie (Roger) Shimanovsky of Niles, IL; his brother, Patrick (Christie) Acton; and his sister, Laura (Paul) Furiani of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Iribas, and his father, George Acton.

Jim had a lifelong love–hate relationship with the Chicago Bears. Game days often included spirited phone calls to his sister Laura, filled with his sharp, hilarious, and unapologetically unfiltered commentary. Those conversations created countless unforgettable moments, and they are memories Laura will always cherish.

Jim was a friend to many with relationships going back to his teenage years.  He shared music interests with his friends of Frank Zappa, Ray Davies and Jackson Browne.  Jim played electric and acoustic guitar and was a collector of classic vinyl albums.  Jim was extremely well read and you always knew where you stood with him.  His sharp wit and banter will be sorely missed.

Jim will be remembered for his deep love of family, his quick wit, and the unmistakable way he made his presence known. Most of all, he will be remembered as a proud and loving father whose children were the light of his life.

A private memorial service will be held at a later time.
