Walter L. Knarr, affectionately known by many as "Skinny," passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 27, 2026, at the age of 91, in his hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania. Born on February 12, 1935, also in Reading, Walter's life was a testament to the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of simple pleasures.
Walter proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, a chapter of his life that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and discipline. After his military service, Walter returned to Reading, where he embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver this brought plenty of stories when we all gathered around. At the heart of Walter's world was his family. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Madeline Knarr, and his sons David Knarr and Jesse Knarr. Walter's legacy of love and strength lives on through his daughter, Robin Fisher and her husband, Steven, of Sinking Spring, PA; his son, Kerry Knarr and his wife, Jean, of Heidelberg, PA; his son, Charles Knarr of Charleston, SC; his daughter, Bobbiejo Peiffer of Reading, PA; and his son-in-law, Larry Peiffer Jr., who passed away before him. Walter was the proud patriarch to 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A man of many interests, Walter found his greatest pleasure in the company of his family and friends. His backyard garage was the setting for many a good-natured gathering, where laughter and lots of stories flowed as freely as the cool Pennsylvania breeze. Walter's presence was a constant in the lives of those who knew him, a steady hand and a source of wisdom. His was a life characterized by the love he gave and the respect he earned. As we remember Walter L. Knarr, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us in the years to come. Walter's story is not one of an ending but a continuation, as the values he instilled in his family and the memories he created with his friends will be cherished and shared for generations. His was a life that proved the richness of simplicity, the worth of dedication, and the enduring power of kinship. Rest in peace, Walter; your journey has been a remarkable one, and your memory will be held in our hearts forever.
